All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE)

The government has envisaged to conduct a common entrance examination on an all India basis for admission to professional and technical colleges in India. For admission to Engineering and Architecture/Planning courses, the Government of India has laid down a Three – Exam Scheme (JEE and AIEEE at the National Level and the State Level Engineering Entrance Examinations (SLEEE) for State Level Institutions – with an option to join AIEEE). This is to takes care of varying admission standards and to help maintain professional standards. This also solves problems of overlaps and reduces physical, mental and financial burden on students and their parents due to multiplicity of entrance examinations.

Scheme of Examination

The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) has come up with some variations in examination module. It has modified marking scheme, the paper pattern, as well as quota for distribution of Seats.


More emphasis has been laid on understanding of subject. This has been done by introducing assertion-reasoning type of questions in physics and mathematics. Lesser direct questions have been put.

-From this year henceforth, as in the recently conducted examination, AIEEE now will have 105 questions instead of 120 last year.

-In Physics, Chemistry, and mathematics, each had 35 questions unlike 40 in previous years.

-This year introduction of paragraph questions was there. Two sets of them in physics, one set has three questions, the other two.

-Marking Scheme: Each correct answer is of three marks and wrong answer of one negative mark.

Different students have different view points but most students found mathematics paper to be tougher. The concern for grasping the concept of the subject has been more enforced. That is why only knowing formulae and shortcuts is not of much help.
Student is advised to lay importance to aptitude for aptitude test such as in papers for B.Arch and B.Plannning courses.

Seats:

There has been a reservation of 27 % for Other Backward Classes. This will cause a change in the number of seats in NIT(National Institute of Technology). The seats for general will remain unchanged.
Before the implementation of this quota, there were 285 out of 570 seats for those who had passed the plus two course in Kerala and Lakshwadeep for getting qualified in AIEEE.
Out of 285 seats 222 are in the open category. This includes six for the open physically challenged category. There is no change in general category as per the latest information.
Additional seats for accommodation of reservation are 103 that are 18% of 570 seats. These will be divided between the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other backward Castes as per the Central Government’s orders.
According to sources, NIT Calicut, was going to implement the reservation in three years increasing 9 % points each year.
New News: - NIT-C has announced the startup of B.Tech Biotechnology course in the new academic year. The reservation formula will be applied to seat distribution in this course. Out of 30, 15 seats will be allocated to general category.
The results of the entrance will be declared on or before June 7th.The counseling may start by June-end.

No deduction is made if no response is indicated on the answer sheet. It is therefore better not to attempt an answer if you are not sure of the correct answer. Also be carefull in marking your answers as multiple markings are considered as incorrect response and are negatively marked as all objective type questions are required to be answered on specially designed machine gradable answer sheets. Answers are to be marked using ball point pen (black/blue) only.
