Candidates competing for posts under both the categories I and II have to appear in all the five subjects mentioned above.
Candidates competing for posts under category I only need to appear in subjects at (A) to (D) above and candidates competing for posts under category II only will be required to appear in subject (A), (B), (C) and (E) above.
The Examination in all the subjects will be of descriptive (essay) type. The Question Papers will be set in English only.
The standard of the paper in General English will be such as may be expected up to the level of science undergraduate degree.
The papers on geological subjects will be approximately of the MSc degree standard of an Indian University and questions will generally be set to test the candidate's grasp of the fundamentals in each subject.
